Sarao Motors, Others Deny Involvement in AFP Iron Man Project

(Manila) A representative from Sarao Motors Inc. denied early Monday morning any involvement in a rumored clandestine project to develop a powered exoskeleton for the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The statement came as a reaction to a leaked intelligence report released on WikiLeaks linking billions of unaccounted AFP funds to a secret project codenamed PASADA. More than a couple of retired generals, two of them both ex-comptrollers of the AFP, are currently embroiled in corruption charges at the Sadiganbayan among others.

While vague on details, the leaked report mentions the outsourcing of development of a powered armor suit to third party companies. Sarao Motors Inc., Joeton Ltd., and Aling Merci’s Merficul Jeepneys of Salvation, Love and Peace Inc. were all mentioned as possible contractors.

“Wala kaming alam tungkol sa ganitong order mula sa AFP,” was the only statement issued by an unnamed representative from Sarao Motors.

Neither Joeton Ltd. nor Aling Merci’s Merficul Jeepneys of Salvation, Love and Peace Inc. could be reached for comment.

Late Sunday afternoon, the AFP official website featured a statement denying any involvement in super soldiers or exoskeletons:

“The Armed Forces of the Philippines categorically denies rumors that it is involved in development projects relating to super soldiers or powered armors. None of the funds that remain unaccounted for are being used for any such purpose and we can almost certainly guarantee that our generals likely used most of the missing funds for personal expenses.”

Reacting to both statements, Bulacan Rep. Carmela Tinio has proposed convening a congressional inquiry in aid of legislation.

“It can’t be that simple,” said Tinio, “That is too much money to have just been used for personal expenses. I don’t think our generals are that corrupt. There is more to this that meets the eye. If the shoe fits, wear it. Fool me once shame on us!”
