Tropical storm described as ‘not very photogenic on satellite imaging.’

(Manila) Only hours after the heavy rains ceased a seemingly endless barrage, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released its critical review of tropical storm ‘Falcon.’

“Our experts gave Falcon an average score of 8.4 which is  pretty high for a tropical storm that didn’t even reach Category 1 status on the international scale. It would have been higher but its shape was scattered and underdeveloped.” PAGASA Weather Reviews Chief Ben Kisumbing said.

The panel that reviewed Falcon noted that the storm was ‘not very photogenic on satellite imaging’ but made up for it by being ‘torrid and passionate like a summer fling.’

Critics of PAGASA again decried the bureau’s inability to provide proper forecasts which saw many of the country’s working and studying population drenched by Falcon’s heavy rains.

“Nung isang buwan, uulan daw parang Ondoy, wala namang nangyari. Ngayon walang abiso pero heto kawawa ang mga bata. Dito lang siguro sa Pilipinas nagsu-suspend ng klase pagkatapos ng bagyo–dahil may sakit na ang mga bata.” a Manila resident said as she was picking her two children up from school late Thursday afternoon.

(“The other month they said it would rain like it did during Ondoy but the rains never came. This time they barely said anything but the rains came hard and the kids suffer the most. It’s probably only here in the Philippines where the government suspends classes when the typhoon has already passed–mostly because by then the children are already sick.”)

PAGASA was quick to point out that since last month the weather bureau is no longer in the business of weather forecasts but rather weather reviews.

“We’ve already said that we don’t have the means to predict weather competently and are doing weather reviews instead. The public should know that from here on out when we do try weather forecasting it’ll be based on our ‘gut feel’ and not actual science.” PAGASA Chief Pedro Arnulfo said.
